
Coldwin
Primarily bacteriostatic against
a wide range of organisms. Erythomycin is used as an alternative
to penicillins in patients allergic to the latter group and as an
alternative to tetracyclines in chlamydial infections. It is also
used in diphtheria, pertussis, legionnaire’s disease and other
respiratory tract infections. Also used topically in acne vulgaris.
Indications &
Dosage:
1-2 tabs 3-4 times a day.

Paracetamol
Paracetamol has analgesic and antipyretic
action with weak anti inflammatory activity. These effects are related
to inhibition of prostaglandin synthesis. It is an analgesic-antipyretic
of choice especially in patients in whom salicylates or other NSAIDs
are contraindicated. Such cases include asthatics, peptic ulcer
patients, children in whom salicylates are not used because of the
risk Reye’s syndrome.
Indications &
Dosage:
Oral -
Mild to Moderate Pain and Fever: Adults: Usual dose is 0.5-1g every
4-6 hours up to a maximum of 4g daily. Children:Under 3 months-10mg/kg
body-wt 3 months-1 yr-60-120mg.1yr-5yr – 120250mg. 6yr-12yr
– 250-500mg. The above dose 3-4 times daily as required.
IM -
As an Antipyretic Analgesic :
(150mg/ml) 2ml IM as reqd.

CL: Hypersens
SP: Renal or hepatic impairment, analgesic nephropathy.
INT POT-HAZ: Paracetamol increases the risk of
liver damage in chronic alcoholics. Enhances anticoagulant. Activity
Others – Rarely Nausea, dyspepsia,Hepatic necrosis.
LAB INT: Very high paracetamol levels can give
false positives for salicylates and glucose.
